Navodaya Vidyalayas are Residential educational institutions financed and administered by Govt: of India through Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous organization under the ministry of Human Resources Development. These Vidyalayas have been established in accordance with National policy of Education, 1986 to provide free and quality education to talented children predominantly belonging to rural areas.

            Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kottarakkara, in Kerala was established in the year 1994. The nearest town Kottarakkara, is about 2 Km. away from the Vidyalaya and about 26 Km. away from Kollam district headquarters. The first batch of class VI students was admitted on 1994 and they passed out in  2001.
